Day 4 Lots of backing -- A LOT

Today was focused primarily on backing for the State of Montana DOT test to obtain our CDL. The state requires you to demonstrate the 3 following types of backing maneuvers.

Straight Line backing:

Start in the box and pull straight forward the cones indicated on the test course. Then back straight into the same space without turning the wheel, ensuring the rear of your trailer does not go beyond the end of the marked box.

Offset backing:

Start in the box and pull straight forward the cones indicated on the test course. Then back into the box to the drivers side of the box where you started. Ensuring the rear of your trailer does not go beyond the end of the marked box.

90 Degree backing (Alley Dock):

Start in the box and pull straight forward until the turn indicator on the trailer (Midway down the trailer) is even with the last cone and turn hard to the left to set up so that you are parallel to the 70 foot cones. Then back into the space you started in. Ensuring the rear of your trailer does not go beyond the end of the marked box.

We did this several times today.
